Benefits of Consuming Lion's Mane tablets?
Nerve Regenerator
Lion's mane
mushroom has the amazing task of
promoting the synthesis of Nerve Growth Aspect (NGF), according to Dr. Hirokazu
Kawagishi from Shizoka College in Japan who is a world-leading authority on
Lion's Mane mushroom for more than a decade.
Nerve growth aspect (NGF) is a small, secreted protein that is essential for the maintenance, upkeep, survival and regeneration of particular target neurons. Neurons are made of approximately 100 billion nerve cells.
Dr. Kawagishi and his
group separated two kinds of molecules within Lion's Mane mushroom that both
promote NGF manufacturing and likewise, crucially, pass unrestricted with the
blood-brain obstacle.
Two novel classes of
Nerve Growth Factors (NGFs) -- molecules stimulating the differentiation and
re-myelination of neurons – that have been discovered in this mushroom so far
are termed "hericenones" and "erinacines" that are known to
cross the myelin sheath barrier for effective delivery of NGF.
Hericium erinaceus is
a potent inducer of brain tissue regeneration. Mycologist Paul Stamets says,
"Lion's mane mushroom mycelium is nature's nutrients for your neurons."
Nerve Growth Factor
cannot, however, be orally given to recipients because it does not cross the
blood-brain barrier that protects the brain. A lack of NGF is considered one of
the major causes of Alzheimer's disease.
The mushroom was
proven effective for its ability to efficiently stimulate neuron growth,
improving muscle-motor response pathways in Parkinson's and repairing
neurological trauma in stroke victims.
In recent times, the
field of neuroscience has proved that even as we age, our brain keeps the
ability to grow brand-new neurons through a procedure called neurogenesis. NGF
and other neurotrophins are chemicals that assist to manage and stimulate
neurogenesis.
About a dozen studies
have been published on the neuroregenerative properties of lion's mane
mushrooms since 1991, when Dr. Kawagishi first identified NGFs in Japanese
samples. Since his original discovery, in vitro and in vivo tests have
confirmed that hericenones and erinacines stimulate nerve regeneration.
Brain Function
Lion's mane may
benefit older adults with mild cognitive impairment (see Phytotherapy Research,
2009). The researchers assigned 30 older Japanese adults with mild cognitive impairment
to take either lion's mane extract or a placebo every day for 16 weeks.
